The space shuttle with booster is the embodiment of mankind's last great adventure: the exploration of space.
The Space Shuttle was the only type of space shuttle used for manned spaceflights.
The system has been in development since the 1970s on behalf of the US space agency NASA, and the first STS-1 mission started on April 12, 1981.
By reusing the parts of the system, flights into space should become significantly cheaper than with non-reusable launch vehicles. This expectation was not fulfilled due to high repair costs. The last flight took place in 2011.
