The Sturmgeschütz III (StuG.III) is considered Germany's most frequently produced combat vehicle in World War II, with 10,619 units manufactured.
Based on the Panzer III chassis, it was cheaper and quicker to build as it did not have a rotating turret.
When German troops first encountered heavily armored Russian tanks, the StuG III Ausf.F was equipped with a longer 7.5 cm cannon.
