Development of the Tiger began in 1937.
Mass production began in 1942 and a total of 1,347 vehicles were manufactured.
Its design was iconic, with suspension similar to that of the Panther and a hull that extended over the tracks.
It could accommodate a turret with wide rings on which the infamous 8.8 cm Kw.K 36 L/56 gun was mounted.
Tigers were first used in the Battle of Leningrad and were soon featured in most German tank battles.
It was the first German heavy tank of World War II and proved formidable against Allied and Soviet units, largely consisting of Sherman and T-34 tanks.
