The camper manufacturer Westfalia recognized early on that the VW T1 was the ideal vehicle for camping and from 1950 offered a camping box as an accessory. In 1961 the permanent conversion to a camping bus followed, which included four beds, several cupboards and a cooking area. With the optionally available pop-up roof, even adults could then stand upright in the camper.
