The racing car "Eldridge", which was built only once and was based on the old Fiat SB4 chassis, became known as the Mephistofele: its powerful 6-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of over 20,000 cm3 was not muffled by exhaust gases, made a hell of a noise - the Mufflers were left “free” to achieve the best performance.
On July 12, 1924, in Arpajon, the Mefistofele, piloted by its pilot and designer Ernest Eldrige, reached the astonishing speed of 146.01 miles per hour (over 230 km/h) for the time and destroyed the world land speed record with an impressive Result.
The Mefistofele was characterized by the high-back bodywork capable of accommodating the powerful liquid-cooled Fiat A-12 engine and by its structure specifically designed to achieve the land speed record.
