The “956” was a radical revolution compared to the previous Porsche 936, which won several competitions between 1976 and 1981.
In order to comply with the new championship regulations, Porsche introduced several technical innovations in the new “956”, including aerodynamic solutions and the aluminum monocoque chassis.
The engine was a reliable 2650 cm3 6-cylinder turbo engine with an output of 635 hp.
The Porsche 956 proved to be an effective and successful sports car, winning several sports prototype championships and four editions of the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans, the world's oldest endurance sports car race.
