The MG34/41 machine gun was a further development of the original MG34 to meet the requirements of the Wehrmacht, which demanded a higher rate of fire as well as simplified production.
The former was addressed by strengthening the ejector assembly and the latter by improving the ammunition feed mechanism.
Production was less demanding because only a few components were pressed and complex machining operations were eliminated.
However, all of this resulted in an overall weight increase of around 14kg compared to the previous standard MG34.
The entire new series of weapons was used on the Eastern Front.
