37mm Pansarvärnskanon m/38.
After World War I, the Swedish Army recognized the need for an infantry support gun in response to the threat posed by modern armored vehicles.
Bofors AB developed a trials-ready gun in 1932, now redesigned as an anti-tank gun.
This gun was eventually designated the Bofors "37 mm Anti-Tank Gun L45".
In the Swedish Army, it was given the name "37 mm Pansarvärnskanon m/38".
As well as being supplied to the Swedish Army, it was also offered commercially by Bofors.
It proved to be very popular and was purchased by many countries, including the United Kingdom, Finland, Poland and many others.
The gun was not only manufactured by Bofors, but licenses were sold to several countries as Bofors' production facilities could not meet demand. (Bofors supplied the Swedish Army with a total of 1251 guns, including tank guns)

The largest other producer was Poland, which produced over 1000 guns, including tank guns.

The differences between the guns of the various countries can be seen mainly in the wheels: Sweden has its distinctive HOHO pattern tires, Denmark the traditional "truck hubs" and the Polish and British guns have common wheels which were very "jeep-like".

Another difference is the uneven shields of the Swedish guns.

These were cut out individually with a welding torch and do not follow any pattern.

Germany captured many guns during the 1939 Polish campaign and these, like many other captured guns from Denmark, were supplied to Germany's allies.
Britain ordered 250 guns, but the order was cancelled after the delivery of 80 guns, as Sweden now urgently needed the entire Bofors production capacity.
It appears that all of these British guns were sent to North Africa, where they were transported portee on the small Morris-Comercial CS8 15 Cwt trucks. A small number were also allocated to the LRDG and mounted on their Chevrolet WA and Ford F30 trucks.
These LRDG guns were not carried portee, but were permanently mounted, minus parts of the carriage and wheels.
The most famous battle in which the Bofors gun took part was the Battle of Beda Fomm, where it was part of the Comb Force.
The small Bofors 37 mm anti-tank guns were used by many countries, first by the Republican forces in the Spanish Civil War.
These guns were most likely of Polish production.
