The Kommandogerät (command device 40) was used to control the fire of large anti-aircraft guns such as the 8.8 cm Flak 36 or the 10.5 cm Flak 40. The rangefinder was put into service in 1941 and issued to the units.
On the battlefield, the rangefinder was operated by a crew of five, two of whom were responsible for entering the azimuth and elevation data.
The third man measured the distance using a 4-meter stereo rangefinder located on top of the rangefinder housing.
The fourth person is responsible for adjusting the horizontal angle while the fifth person acts as a general operator.
The rangefinder took only 30 seconds to find the target and fire the first shot and could see up to 18 kilometers away. D
The rangefinder was transported on a specially adapted Sd.Anhänger 52, which was equipped with a lifting device and was towed by a light truck.
