The 15 cm heavy infantry gun 33 (s.IG.33 for short) was the standard gun of the German armed forces during World War II.
It was the larger counterpart to the 7.5 cm infantry gun le.IG.18.
The s.IG.33 was approved for use in 1933 and was originally designed for horse-drawn transport.
Later models, however, were specifically designed to be pulled by vehicles such as trucks or half-tracks. They therefore had pressed steel wheels with solid rubber tires and air brakes.
At 1750 kg, the s.IG.33 was quite heavy for use by infantrymen, but could fire 15 cm projectiles such as HE grenades, smoke grenades and shaped charges (for anti-tank use) to a maximum range of 4700 m.
Perhaps the most interesting was the 90 kg Stielgranate 42, which was designed to destroy obstacles such as bunkers.
