The 155 mm Gun Motor Carriage M40 was an American self-propelled artillery gun based on a widened and lengthened Sherman M4 A3 hull and equipped with the HVSS (Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension) running gear.
The vehicle was put into service towards the end of the Second World War and also experienced some operations in Germany in the final phase.
It was also used in the Korean War
The British Army also used some of these self-propelled guns.
