The plastic model kit of the anti-aircraft tank V Coelian, which was released some time ago, represents this project of an anti-aircraft tank on the chassis of the Panther D as a fictitious emergency vehicle Project study of a possible German Wehrmacht anti-aircraft tank on the hull of Panzerkampfwagen V Panther. As is so often the case, the Hobby Boss kit is of a rather simple design, parts of the Bergepanther D from Hobby Boss were used, the representation of the Coelian tower seems rather carelessly and hastily implemented. The arrangement of the large, angular hatch in the turret roof, the poorly fitting small hatch covers, a strange range finder on a round hatch, the completely superfluous close-range defense device that cannot be identified on the original wooden model make the turret not exactly look like a fictitious series turret. A particular weakness is the retention of the original Panther D driver's hatch cover, although the well-known company photos clearly show that the Panther D chassis used already has the hatch configuration of the Panther G. To make things a little more plausible, we decided to develop an upgrade for the Hobby Boss Flakpanzer V Coelian that looks more like a production turret, albeit purely fictional of course, since the Coelian was known to never have been built. The MR Models conversion kit MR-35665 includes a CNC-milled polystyrene plate with the rectangular driver's hatch openings of the Panther G, matching hatch covers and a replacement pipe box that can be used at will, which we have attached across the rear of the engine deck. The gun case from the Hobby Boss kit was too unsatisfactory for us with too generous installation tolerances, so we developed a new gun case that fits more neatly into the turret opening. As a replacement, our conversion kit also includes two barrels of the 3.7cm Flak 43 from RB Modell. A new turret roof with a square access hatch was provided, as faintly visible in the factory photos, along with a combined rangefinder and sighting unit, a lookout head for direct sighting, larger roof vents and better fitting hatch covers on the forward turret slopes, and fixed and rotating periscopes inside Access hatch cover.
