The Leopard 2A6M CAN is a Canadian variant of the Leopard 2A6.
Twenty 2A6M CAN tanks were loaned by the German Bundeswehr to increase protection for Canadian troops deployed in Afghanistan from August 2007.
These Leopards served there until the Canadian Forces withdrew in July 2011.
This represents the latest version of 2A6M CAN - Canada's main battle tank alongside the 2A4M CAN.
Having undergone a thorough rebuilding program after returning to Canada from Afghanistan, modifications include the mine protection belly plate (hence the 'M' designation), reinforcement strips under the engine compartment, glacis armor plate, a crew compartment cooling unit in the right rear hull, the option of ECM boxes mounted on the rear turret roof, 'T' antenna mounts and mounting points for attaching slatted armor and engineering attachments to the front.
The twenty 2A6M CAN serve alongside twenty 2A4M CAN and a further forty-two 2A4 CAN for training.
There is one final configuration of 2A6M CAN - the real vehicles differ from tank to tank as most are currently in various stages of modification.
It will take some time to get them all to the same final standard.
The set contains:
- almost 40 resin parts
- three photo-etched parts for engine deck grilles
- optional ECM boxes
- photo-etched parts for the turret basket
- Also included are LW014B turned brass antenna set and LW027B 6 + 2 smoke launchers
