The Sd.Kfz. 9 was the largest and heaviest half-track vehicle of the Wehrmacht. It was mainly designed as an artillery and recovery tractor or was given an armoured cabin and a permanently installed 8.8 cm Flak 37. Only about 14 vehicles of this anti-aircraft variant were produced. FAMOs equipped with a 6 ton crane were introduced into the troops from 1941. Mainly used in the tank departments, workshop trains, and in the artillery and anti-aircraft regiments, with its lifting capacity of six tonnes it could pull Panzer IV turrets as well as remove complete weapon systems, e.g. from the Wespe and Hummel self-propelled guns.
