An armored superstructure was mounted on the half-track chassis of the Sd.Kfz. 10.
In the older vehicles, the very angled armored superstructure consisted of 19 armor plates, in newer vehicles it was arranged in a straight line and consisted of only 9 armor plates.
The first Sd.Kfz. 250s entered the army in the summer of 1941, the newer version from June 1943.
With a 100 hp engine, the 5 ton armored personnel carrier could reach speeds of up to 65 km/h.
The crew consisted of a maximum of 6 soldiers.
Depending on the intended use, there were different variants from the Sd.Kfz. 250/1 to the Sd.Kfz. 250/12. The Sd.Kfz. 250/1 was the armored personnel carrier version with a crew of 6 and up to 2 machine guns.
Rarely used in the reconnaissance role, Sd.Kfz. 250s were often used in combat alongside tanks, with combat being conducted from the vehicle wherever possible.
