In June 2022, GDLS won the Mobile Protected Firepower program competition and was awarded a contract worth up to $1.14 billion.
The U.S. Army unveiled its new M10 Booker fighting vehicle during a ceremony in Virginia to mark the Army's 248th birthday. The fighting vehicle is named after Medal of Honor recipient Pvt. Robert D. Booker, who died in World War II, and Distinguished Service Cross recipient Staff Sgt. Stevon A. Booker, who died as a result of his injuries sustained in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The M10 Booker's design is conventional, with the driver and engine at the front and the turret at the rear of the hull. The turret accommodates a crew of three: a commander, gunner, and loader, and is expected to weigh about 42 tons.
The M10 Booker's main armament consists of a 105 mm cannon based on the American M35 and a coaxially mounted 7.62 mm machine gun.
The M10 Booker is powered by an 800 hp MTU diesel engine and an Allison transmission, which provides an excellent power-to-weight ratio. It also has a hydropneumatic suspension.
The M10 Booker uses the M1A2 Sep V3 fire control system and CITV (Commander's Independent Thermal Viewer).
It is equipped with the Safran Optics 1 PASEO Commander's Independent Tactical Viewer (CITV) long-range panoramic target sight. It improves the situational awareness capability of armored and surveillance vehicles in all combat scenarios (stationary and moving), even at high speeds.
The Army is expected to purchase 504 M10 Bookers by 2035.
The vehicles are used to build up tank battalions in light infantry divisions and brigades that otherwise have no armored vehicles.
In addition to the 82nd Airborne Division, other candidates include the 10th Mountain Division, the 11th Airborne Division, the 25th Infantry Division, the 29th Infantry Division and the 173rd Airborne Brigade.
A brigade could receive between 15 and 20 Bookers, while a division could receive up to 45-60.
