The third generation M1 Abrams tank is the backbone of the US military and Marine Corps armored divisions. The Abrams is characterized by heavy armor (it is among the heaviest combat vehicles in the world) and the use of the powerful multi-fuel turbine engine. Great attention was paid to crew protection thanks to the separate and heavily protected ammunition depot. The M1 Abrams, which entered service in the early 1980s to replace the outdated M-60, features a sophisticated fire control system and modern armor.
