The BMD-1 was a light infantry fighting vehicle of the Soviet airborne troops. In keeping with its role, it was air-transportable, but also buoyant. In addition to the 2-man crew, 6 soldiers could be transported. In addition to the 73mm cannon in a rotating turret, it was equipped with 7.62mm machine guns. The BMD-1P could also be equipped with anti-tank guided missiles on the turret roof.
