Equipped with Christie suspension and large-diameter rolling wheels, the Crusader had remarkable handling characteristics in rough terrain.
The first Mk. I and Mk. II versions were armed with a 2-dr. gun, which was later replaced by the more powerful 6-dr. gun of the Mk.III version.
As it was not sufficiently armoured against enemy fire, it was also very vulnerable to enemy mines and anti-tank guns.
Its armament was often inadequate compared to similar German vehicles.
However, when used in a coordinated manner, they could achieve good results.
With the appearance of the more powerful Mk. III, the Crusaders Mk. II were already relegated to second place by the time of the Battle of El Alamein.
