The Panzerkampfwagen II was a Wehrmacht light tank. Developed in the 1930s, it represented the backbone of the Wehrmacht at the beginning of World War II, although it was actually only designed as a lightly armored, lightly armed temporary solution. After testing prototypes, small series production was started in order to identify potential for improvement and incorporate it into subsequent series.
One of the small series of 100 tanks was the Ausf. b with increased engine power, but also a higher weight of 7.9 tons than the Ausf. a versions. It still had 6 rollers on three springs each, reinforced by a U-beam and a 140 hp motor, with which a top speed of around 40 km/h was reached. Armament was a 2 cm Panzer 30/L55 gun and a 7.92 mm MG34. The armor was 13mm grade for protection against small arms and splinters. The crew consisted of 3 men. Early versions of the Panzer II were mainly used in the blitzkrieg against Poland.
To increase the range, tank trailers with additional fuel were also carried.
