The Merkava series is a series of main battle tanks used by the Israeli Defense Forces and forms the backbone of the IDF's armored corps.
Development began in 1970 and the Merkava Mark 1 was officially commissioned in 1979.
Dr Merkava Mark 2 is an improved version with a mortar relocated to the turret, additional armor on the turret, thermal vision device, etc. It is armed with the 105 mm M64 L71A cannon, two 7.62 mm machine guns for anti-infantry use and an internally mounted 60 mm mortar.
