The Leclerc tank, the most used vehicle in battles, was designed around the following three principles: mobility, firepower and protection, with communications added later. Operated by a crew of three (commander, gunner and driver), it was capable of withstanding the most intense attacks in heavy combat and engaging and engaging even the most heavily fortified targets. He could perform any task intended for armored forces, regardless of the environment or the type and form of attack (chemical, bacteriological or nuclear). Its very compact size certainly contributed to its safety. It was protected by a steel structure with high-resistance armor, optionally mounted elements (evolving protection) and electronic countermeasures. The 1500 hp of its power unit ensured high off-road mobility (40 to 50 km/h on average) and a top speed of 70 km/h. It had a range of 500 to 650 km thanks to its 1300 liter fuel tank and its 400 liter jettisonable auxiliary tanks.
