The Merkava Mk.3D main battle tank of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is the upgraded version of the Merkava Mk.3 and is equipped with a 120 mm smoothbore gun, the BAZ gunner's sight and a panoramic commander's sight.
The removable additional armor plates on the turret roof and sides significantly increase the protection capability.
As the best-equipped main battle tank of the Israel Defense Forces, the Merkava Mk.3D saw action in the Second Lebanon War in 2006, Operation Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip in the winter of 2009 and in many other security activities along the Israeli border.
