The Russian T-90 main battle tank is a modernization of the T-72B.
It was designed by the Ural Design Bureau of Transport Machine Building.
Its production began in 1992 and it then entered service with the Russian troops.
The tank has a large-caliber smoothbore gun capable of firing rockets, machine guns and an automatic fire control system.
It is equipped with the Russian Shtora ("curtain" in English), a combined electro-optical countermeasure that protects the tank from laser-guided weapons.
It is also equipped with an NBC protection system. In total, about 120 T-90 main battle tanks were produced.
Later, they were gradually replaced by the more modern T-90A.
