It was initially called the IS-8 and then renamed the T-10.
About 1500 T-10s were produced. Its main armament was a 122 mm M-62-T2 (2A17) rifled cannon and its secondary weapons were a 14.5 mm KPVT coaxial machine gun and an anti-aircraft machine gun.
The loader and commander had infrared night vision devices.
The tank was equipped with an NBC protection system.
It was powered by a 750 hp V-12-6 diesel engine.
Its maximum speed was 50 km/h and its operational range was 350 km.
Its combat weight was 51 t.
T-10M tanks were used in Operation Danube during the invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 and were finally decommissioned in 1993.
