It was specifically developed as a response to the Soviet IS-3 tank and was intended as a partner for the British Army's Centurion (armed with a smaller 20 Pdr gun) to provide anti-tank range over long distances.
From 1955 to 1959, a total of 20 Conqueror Mk.I and 165 Conqueror Mk.II tanks were produced and assigned to the tank regiments stationed in Germany.
The disadvantage was their weight of 66 tons, which affected their speed and was too heavy for many bridges.
The Super-Conqueror is a Conqueror Mk.I that was to be experimentally increased in 1957 by adding additional armor to the hull front and turret.
But there were only prototypes - series production never took place.
