The Schützenpanzer Kurz (Hotchkiss) infantry fighting vehicle was part of the Bundeswehr's initial equipment.
From 1959 to 1967, over 1,600 vehicles were built by Magirus-Deutz in Mainz.
The PzMrs 81mm was used in the heavy companies of the PzGrenBtl (mot) and in the PzAufklBtl.
The 8t heavy vehicles were equipped with a Tampella mortar in the rear.
51 mortar grenades were carried.
The crew consisted of 4 soldiers.
