The Namer APC was developed on 1 March 2008 based on the Merkava Mk.4 hull. A small number have been commissioned by the Israel Defense Forces since summer 2008. The Namer is equipped with modular armor,
V-shaped hull bottom armor packages and NBC protection for survivability and repairability. Weapons include a Browning M2 heavy machine gun or Mk.19 automatic grenade launcher on the Samson RCWS, as well as a 7.62mm FN MAG and a single 60mm mortar. The vehicle can carry 12 crew members and fully armed infantry.
