The British Mark V tank was an improved version of the Mark IV tank.
It was improved over the Mark IV, most notably in the new steering system, gearbox and 150hp engine, but was deficient in other areas, most notably inadequate ventilation which led to carbon monoxide poisoning among the crew.
Production of the Mark V began in late 1917 and the first tanks arrived in France in May 1918.
400 were built, 200 "Male" with 6-pounder cannons and 200 "Female" armed with machine guns.
There were also mixed versions - one side with cannons, the other with machine guns - the "Hermaphrodite"
