The Korean War, fought from June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953, is sometimes referred to as the Forgotten War. Shortly after the end of World War II, North Korea faced off against South Korea, which was supported by the United States and 21 members of the United Nations. Within two months of invading North Korea, Allied forces were on the verge of defeat after retreating within the Pusan Perimeter. A daring U.S. amphibious assault on Incheon put North Korean forces back on their heels, and the battle swung back and forth from then on. A ceasefire ended the conflict, which was one of the most destructive in modern times. Approximately 3 million deaths occurred, most of them civilians.
The M26A1 was equipped with an M3A1 gun with barrel suction and a single baffle muzzle brake.
