It was mass-produced and formed the backbone of the United States armored force at the time.
Several variants were produced.
The Sherman Firefly was a tank used by the British Army and other Commonwealth units.
It was based on the M4 (Sherman I) or M4A4 (Sherman V), but was equipped with the more powerful British 3-inch (76.2 mm) caliber 17-pounder cannon as its main armament.
This made it equal in firepower to most German tanks.
