The development of the amphibious full-track tug began in the mid-1930s. The 300 hp engine allowed speeds of 40 km/h on land and 12.5 km/h in water. 20 soldiers or cargo could be transported. The LWS could also tow floating trailers. Its area of operation was calm waters and coastal regions. Since there was no landing in England, the existing specimens were mainly used in the Baltics and Russia, but also in the Mediterranean region.
