The Ausf. B was still equipped with a short-barreled 7.5 cm KwK37 L/24 and an MG34 machine gun.
The tank was operated by a crew of five and was used in the campaigns from 1939 to 1940 in Poland, Norway and France and from 1941 also in the Balkans and Russia.
A snow plow was very useful in winter combat in places such as the Eastern Front, where there were extreme temperatures and large amounts of snow that severely limited mobility.
