The Ausführung G of the Pz.Kpfw.IV. Ausf.G were equipped with the long-barreled KwK 40 L / 43 guns after the battle with Soviet tanks showed the inferiority of the Wehrmacht's short-barreled tank guns.
They were produced between March 1942 and June 1943 and featured a new mantlet and barrel cradle. Further improvements during production included additional armour.
