From July 1942, the "F2" version of the Panzer IV was produced and renamed "G" from September 1942.
About 1700 units of this version left the production facilities until spring 1943.
A double muzzle brake replaced the spherical one used until then.
In April 1943, the delivery of the "Version H" began, with the long KwK 40 L/48 as standard.
The front basic armouring of the hull was now 80 mm.
The vehicles were delivered with side skirts as standard.
These were 5 mm thick plates which were removable from the hull and fixed to the turret and protected against anti-tank shells.
The side slits on the turret for gunners and loaders were omitted as they had lost their function anyway due to the attached skirts.
