The Panzerkampfwagen IV (Sd.Kfz. 161) was a German medium tank used extensively during World War II and formed the backbone of the German armoured units.
The Ausführung J was introduced as a simplification of the Ausführung H to speed up production.
The electric generator that powered the turret of the tank was removed, so that the turret had to be rotated manually.
In addition, the cylindrical silencer on the exhaust was replaced by two silencers with flame suppression.
The side skirts of the Panzer IV were replaced by wire mesh, the front sighting hatch of the gunner in the turret front was removed and the number of supports was reduced from four to three to further speed up production.
