The A13 Mk.IV was a British cruiser tank with superior cross-country speed and performance, equipped with the American "Christie" suspension system.
The first A13 tanks, manufactured in 1940, were sent to the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) on the Western Front to help repel German attacks.
Unfortunately, the situation worsened and most of these tanks were destroyed by their own crews. Some A13s fell into German hands and were reused under the German designation Panzerkampfwagen 744(e).
The Germans used some of these tanks in Russia and modified some of their parts such as tracks and vehicle equipment according to German ones.
Although few documents mention their existence, there are historical photos that confirm that the Germans equipped these tanks with the 1st Battalion of the 100th Panzer Regiment of the 18th Panzer Division for use in the “Barbarossa” attack on the USSR.
