Around 41 such vehicles were converted from Panther battle tanks at the end of 1944/45.
The conversion required the removal of the 7.5 cm KwK42 gun and the armoring of the front of the turret.
A wooden dummy cannon with a cover was mounted on this plate in the middle, and to the right of it was a ball-bearing MG34 machine gun.
