One of his most famous battles took place on June 13, 1944, in the village of Villers-Bocage, Normandy, just a week after the D-Day landings.
As the British, particularly the 22nd Armored Brigade, attempted to exploit a gap in the German defenses west of Caen, they were ambushed by Tiger I tanks from s.Pz.Abt.101 under the command of Wittmann.
In a short but fierce battle, a large number of British tanks and vehicles were destroyed.
It is disputed which tank Wittmann actually used at the Battle of Villers-Bocage, but many believe he commanded a late production Tiger I with turret number "212".
In the meantime, there are two other options, namely "222" and "231", which can also be found on the decals.
