In the 1930s, the Canadian subsidiaries of major American automobile manufacturers entered into a series of production agreements to produce a range of trucks to meet the transport needs of British troops and the major Commonwealth countries.
Production increased significantly during World War II, and Canadian Military Pattern (CMP) trucks accompanied Commonwealth troops on the major European fronts, from operations in North Africa to the invasion of Sicily and the Normandy landings.
Tough, reliable and particularly effective in operational use, they were produced in numerous configurations and for a variety of roles, from military logistics to artillery towing.
The CWT 15 version, with four-wheel drive and good loading capacity, was particularly popular.
