The GMC DUKW (General Motors Company / D = 1942, U = Utility (Amphibious), K = Allrad-antrieben (All Wheel Drive); and W = Dual-tandem rear axles) was an amphibious truck based on the 2.5 ton GMC CCKW truck. Like the CCKW, it had a payload of 2.5 tons and reached speeds of 80 km/h on the road and 10 km/h on the water. With a special, also buoyant trailer called WTCT-6 (watertight cargo trailer), the payload could be increased accordingly. By the end of World War II, over 21,000 DUKW had been manufactured and were used in particular to supply landing troops. It was also used after the Second World War, including by the German Armed Forces until the 1960s. Even today, some vehicles can be found as tourist attractions on the world's roads/waterways.
