The choice fell on the Willys prototype which, after an initial series of 1500 vehicles, went into mass production in early 1941, reaching a total production of 640000 units, of which 277000 were manufactured by Ford under a licensing agreement. The Jeep was the most produced light vehicle of the Second World War.
