The KV tank won in 1939 a competition with the heavy tank from the Kirov factory and was named after the Commissioner of Defense Kliment Voroshilov. The first KVs still had an L-11 76.2 mm cannon, the types after that were equipped with an F-32, also 76.2 mm cannon. In July 1940, series production was transferred from the Kirow factory to Factory 100. The KV was continuously improved - better performance, armor, armament and modified turrets until production was discontinued in favor of the T-34.
