The KV tank won in 1939 in competition with the heavy tank from the Kirov factory and was named after the Commissioner of Defense Kliment Voroshilov. The first KVs still had an L-11 76.2 mm cannon, the types after that were equipped with an F-32, also 76.2 mm cannon. In July 1940, series production was transferred from the Kirow factory to Factory 100. The KV was continuously improved - better performance, armor, armament and modified turrets until production was discontinued in favor of the T-34.
