Mobile, yet well-armed armored cars were extremely important to the armed forces in World War II, and the 7 tonne armored car built by Humber met this need sufficiently for the British: with effective sloped armor, a fully rotating turret and four-wheel drive, it achieved a Top speed of 72 km/h from its 90 hp 6-cylinder engine.
The Mk.IV was the last of its four variants and featured the largest gun, upgrading from the previous 15mm machine gun to a 37mm gun.
It was the most commonly produced variant and around 2000 Mk.IVs rolled off the assembly line in the final stages of the Second World War and were used in units throughout north-western Europe and Italy.
The Mk.IV was used as a reconnaissance vehicle and also as a commander's car.
