The one from Dr. The amphibious float car designed by Ferdinand Porsche was used by the German land forces, paratroopers and engineer troops during the Second World War and fulfilled both reconnaissance and liaison tasks.
The Schwimmwagen is equipped with both two- and four-wheel drive and was widely appreciated for its maneuverability over difficult terrain.
Equipped with a raised exhaust pipe and a rear-mounted, air-cooled 4-cylinder engine with 1130 cm³ and 25 hp, the swimming car could reach top speeds of up to 80 km/h on land and 10 km/h in the water.
Powered in the water by a screw propeller that could be easily raised above the rear engine deck when traveling on land, steering in the water was the same as on land, with the front wheels acting as rudders. Produced in series from 1942, 14,276 Type 166 Schwimmwagens were produced by the end of 1944.
