This American-made 280mm caliber artillery piece was designed in the 1950s for the express purpose of firing a 15-kiloton nuclear bomb.
The design of the M65 used the German K5 railway gun as a starting point.
It was first deployed in 1953 and was stationed in both Europe and the Korean Peninsula.
For mobility, the cannon required two specially designed tractors and, surprisingly, the 83.3-ton combination could reach speeds of around 55 km/h.
The M65 cannon could be ready to fire in 15 minutes and the weapon's range was approximately 32 km.
At least 20 systems were produced, although the development of rocket and rocket-based nuclear artillery quickly made the M65 obsolete.
Nevertheless, this American prestige weapon remained in use until 1963.
