Based on the Light Panzer II (Pz.Kpfw. II), this self-propelled gun was developed for the German Wehrmacht in 1942 and experienced its baptism of fire during the Battle of Kursk.
With a longer fuselage length, it could accommodate the 10.5cm howitzer FH18.
Thanks to its good mobility and the partially protected fighting area, it could be used near the front.
This ensured artillery support for the infantry units during the battle.
With more than 650 units produced between 1943 and 1945, this self-propelled gun became the standard howitzer for the Panzer and Panzergrenadier divisions.
