Usually organised into independent heavy tank battalions.
It provided the German Army with its first tank to use the 8.8cm KwK-36 gun (derived from the 8.8cm Flak 36).
1,347 examples were built between August 1942 and August 1944.
After August 1944, production of the Tiger I was discontinued in favour of the Tiger II.
The Sherman Firefly was a tank used by the British Army and other Commonwealth forces.
It was based on the M4 (Sherman I) or M4A4 (Sherman V), but was fitted with the more powerful British 3-inch (76.2 mm) 17-pounder gun as its main armament.
This gave it firepower equal to most German tanks.
