The Panzerkampfwagen IV formed the backbone of the German armoured units during the Second World War.
Between 1933 and 1945, it was produced in greater numbers than any other German main battle tank of the time.
The H version, which was equipped with side skirts to increase armour protection for the first time, was built from 1943 to 1944.
